Starting Lap Period

Circuit Details

We have nineteen laps of the longest circuit in Formula 1, the commentator points out.

Countdown

The countdown is underway.

Racer Positions

One point in Verstappen's favour: his fellow driver Yuki Tsunoda is ahead of him by a single position. It's improbable to mess with Red Bull's lead driver.

Media Conversations

Sky interviewing Sky currently: Gary Neville is at the Mercedes team.

Karun Chandhok is looking forward to the 2026 season, interviewing Adrian Newey about his stepping up to Aston Martin team principal.

Grid Details

There are only 16 cars on the grid. It was another bad qualifying for the driver: following his result of 20th and last in Las Vegas, resulting in an eighth position in the grand prix, he failed to make it out of Q1 again on Friday. Ferrari have as a result adjusted to his setup and so he begins from the starting area.

The team's Lance Stroll and the Alpine duo of Gasly and Colapinto are all starting from the same position.

Racer Statements

"We take the learning for tomorrow," states Hadjar, starting eleventh. There will be plenty of learning.

Team Standings

It's not all about the drivers' title: The team have run away with the constructors' gong but Mercedes, with a 40-point lead over their rivals, will be hoping to secure the runner-up position during this event. Russell can assist in this goal from the front row, and Antonelli will begin immediately after the leader.

Previous Results

Piastri was victorious then – as he managed last year, as well. The driver from McLaren is attempting a third consecutive win.

Sprint Race Value

Right, just over twenty minutes remaining until the sprint race begins. Unless something goes wrong, it's greatest value is as a preview of what is to come, instead of significant in its own right, with just eight championship points available to the winner. Mind you, second place here was sufficient for Verstappen to become champion in a prior season.

Max Verstappen wins the championship following his teammate's accident of the short race.
